'Building the layers: exploring acrylic and mixed media landscapes
2 day workshop

During this 2 day workshop you will be able to fully immerse yourself in how to use acrylics in a loose and expressive way.

• You will learn how to develop sketches (or photos) before you paint - looking at composition, colour, tone and texture.
• I will teach you the versatility of acrylic paint and ink; introduce you to mediums you can use with acrylic paint, colour and how to keep loose and expressive.
• You will learn techniques to apply acrylic using different tools and how to create depth of interest through layering.
• You will create visually textured collage papers using a gel plate - to be combined as mixed media in your work.

Do you get frustrated using acrylic when it doesn't do want you want it to? I will show you different techniques that I use with acrylic paint/ink using a variety of tools (including palette knives), how to stay loose & expressive and how to build depth of interest through layering.
After exploring this you will then create 2 paintings putting it all into practice.

Venue
My 2025 workshops will be held at Stratton on the Fosse Village Hall.   The venue offers a mix of outdoor inspiration as well as a light airy indoor space to work in; plenty of opportunities to fill your sketchbooks and spark off ideas for future work.

ONLINE WORKSHOP

If you've been wanting to join me on a workshop but live just too far away you now have a chance to join in the fun. Each year I run an online creative sketchbooks workshop - join my mailing list to be notified when new dates are added to the website.

‘Creative Sketchbooks’.
This is a workshop in which I take you and your sketchbook on a journey of discovery as you join me live online for 3 workshop sessions exploring your creativity.
Using nature as a prompt I’ll be guiding you through the process I use when I work in one of my ‘creative’ concertina sketchbooks; you will get over 6 hours of teaching which will take place over 3 x 2.5 hour sessions using Zoom.
​As free bonus I will (technology permitting!) be recording the sessions * so that each attendee can get a chance to see the session again and work through it at their own pace.
