Bath & West accepted one of my paintings so went up to take a look during the event. Quite a small exhibition space compared to last year. The last couple of weeks I have been busy with a commission. Taking my time with it.
Also I have been decorating a shovel (with help) on behalf of Cam Valley Arts Trail Group for the Midsomer Arts Festival on the 27th June in Midsomer Norton. It now sports blackbirds on a blue background - the blackbird being the trail image. The CVAT group will be having a stall at The Hollies during the event.

Well I'm converted - up until the weekend I'd never demonstrated at an exhibition and having had a go at the Old Bakery Artists Art Trail I think I'll do it at the next trail I take part in. Lots of people stopped to chat and talk about painting and some even bought my work. Good fun and time flies.
I've been labelling up my Bath & West entries - they all get delivered on Sunday - keeping my fingers crossed that some get accepted. Photos below - a bit lopsided but they give you an idea.

It's been a busy week. Last Saturday was the Cam Valley Arts Trail Group Spring Exhibition & Sale which was held at Camerton Hall. Much of the week was spent producing smaller pieces for the sale plus finishing the Bath street scene which I'm submitting to the Bath & West Show - it's being framed as I write.
This coming Saturday & Sunday is the Old Bakery Artists Art Trail which is taking place around Midsomer Norton, Radstock & Paulton. I'm going to be in the Town Hall which is in Midsomer Norton - I'll also be demonstrating during the day. The brochure can be downloaded via the link on the home page.

Over a month since my last update - school holidays one of many excuses! Finally made it back into the studio; I'm trying to finish a painting for the Bath & West. It's coming together but still lots to do as you can see below - very much a work in progress.
Last Saturday was the Redcatch Art Club exhibition - some wonderful art on show yet again. In the next few days I'll be getting ready for the Cam Valley Arts Exhibition & Sale. There will be 20 artists showing their work alongside me - well worth a visit over the bank holiday. Hope to see you there. More info on the website www.camvalleyartstrail.co.uk 22nd April 2015 |
I go to a weekly art class and we've been looking at painting animals - not my normal subject but quite refreshing looking at colour and form.
As well cats I've been working on a few more landscapes - less orange in these! Will be in the studio again tomorrow tackling another Bath streetscape.

Painting lots - a few mountains emerging as well as seascapes. The photos make the orange paint really stand out but it is more toned down than that in real life. The cerulean blue is as blue though!
I am trying to work in the studio more often and as a result I have loads of half finished paintings drying everywhere - thank goodness I work in acrylic rather than oil and they dry relatively quickly ready for my next stint.

I have new paint!
After a bit of a shopping spree I'm giving my new paint colours an airing - good to try something new.
Far prefer working on board at the moment as it has less 'give' than canvas. Photos of work in progress - quite a few on the go - nothing finished yet. It's so cold in the studio at the moment I'm amazed I'm getting anything done.

Where did January go?
In the studio I've started a new body of work - no completed pieces of work as yet but on their way. Photo of my studio below for anyone interested. Hoping to exhibit some new work at the Oakhill Inn during March & April.
I have work hanging in the Victoria Hall, Radstock until the middle of February. Lovely venue promoting the arts with dance lessons, gallery space, craft fairs and a great little café - well worth a visit.

It has been a busy and successful end to 2014 with art trails and Christmas markets. As well lots of interest in my work over the art trail weekends, Red Maids' School Christmas Market on Saturday 6th December saw 2 of my larger pieces (Tide's Waning & Bright Day) go to a good home too.
As Christmas approached I managed to squeeze in a commission for a family who wanted a gift to say 'thank you' for their very personal memories of summer holiday's in Constantine Bay, Cornwall. Swan Artworks in Midsomer Norton even managed to frame it time - thank you Tony & Carrie.
I'm starting 2015 with more time in the studio and planning the year ahead. Keep an eye on the exhibition page for details of upcoming events.
Happy New Year.
